Ian spends the majority of his time coaching people through his popular online programs, speaking at events and hosting technology free wellness retreats.
His mission is to help busy professionals balance a busy lifestyle with optimal health and tap into their full potential.
So this means for us as the listener, Ian is one of us and here to provide some valuable knowledge and encouragement for us.
Question One – 2:55
Ian, where in the world are you located and how are you doing?
Sunny San Diego
Question Two – 4:24
How did you get into fitness and when did it really become part of your life?
Typical skinny kid in high school then put on 20 pounds in college and became “skinny fat”
After working out, I became more confident and never felt better.
I began a coaching career and 15 years later, never looked back
Question Three – 5:56
You had a life altering event in your life that caused you to question everything. Would you tell us about it?
At 28 running my own coaching business but a lot of fear of building an online business and podcast but called to do more.
January 30, 2015 found out his brother died and the worst day of his life.
After losing his brother, these fears became “not that big of a deal” because tomorrow is not guaranteed. We take so many things for granted.
Moved to San Diego, and launched the podcast two weeks later and launched his online coaching program.
Growth comes in the risks.
Question Four – 9:27
How did you deal with the fear and how did you begin to move forward doing things in life you feared?
The fear never completely goes away but used one of these big moments as a catalyst and being willing to just take a shot.
We create stories in our head that are not the ultimate truth.
One thing was congruent of those he interviewed, “to get to where they were, they had to take that uncomfortable leap.”
The more you step out of your comfort zone, the more you learn and it’s part of this journey.
Question Five – 11:40
What type of people do you come across on a daily basis and what can we learn from them?
The show is centered around high performance and holistic health.
The way you take care of your body affects every other area of your life.
High performers often neglect their body more than anything else.
The reaction to his coaching clients is extraordinary when they begin to do what is necessary in nutrition and fitness.
Question Six – 13:32
What are you learning about REST in your own life right now?
I almost felt guilty when I did rest but what I learned is when I had that type of mindset, it diminished the quality of my work.
When I started implementing breaks and gaps, the quality of my work dramatically improved.
Not a big proponent of taking 10-15 minutes breaks to reset which is a big shift especially when he moved to San Diego.
It not about getting more done but increasing the quality of my work.
Question Seven – 15:45
What do you suggest for nutrition and fitness to be successful on the road?
It’s hard when you’re on the road and can relate getting into situations to stay on top of your health.
The key is Preparation. Begin thinking ahead of how to make the most of the environment you’re going to be in.
When eating, prepare by finding restaurants and food
Being prepared will save you every single time because when you don’t have a game plan, you’re more inclined to take care of yourself.

Question Eight – 18:34
How do you suggest we increase our energy on any given day?
So many people neglect something so simple which is hydration. We’re running on caffeine but the key is having a jug of water and staying hydrated.
Between activities during the day take a walk or do something that brings you energy not just endlessly staring at the computer screen.
Create installments or breaks throughout your day to maximize your energy.
One Suggestion – Meditation by monitoring my breath just for a few minutes and let the world be…
Question Nine – 21:26
Let’s unpack this meditation, so if someone is interested in beginning today if they wanted to try it?
Recommendation – start with SMALL installments (i.e.: 100 count breathing exercise by 3 seconds inhale, hold 3 seconds, exhales for 3 second)
Once done with the breathing exercise and quickly journal how you feel coming out of this breathing installment.
Question Ten – 23:42
How does ENERGY play a role in your life right now?
Energy is EVERYTHING and when we have the right types of energy, we’re happier.
When I have more energy, it shows up in places most people don’t think. I’m in a better headpiece for relationships, better workouts, and certainly more creativity.
Question Eleven – 25:51
Energy is important but energy takes time so what seems like is taking time away is actually worth the time off?
Absolutely. The key is to look at your results and actually more productive. Plan, take breaks, and you’ll actually enjoy it more in the process.
Question Twelve – 26:18
What is a common denominator of those you interview?
Number One is they’re very good about setting up their own agenda to maximize their performance (zone of genius).
Number Two is MAKE time to take care of themselves and develop themselves personally.
Question Thirteen – 27:49
How do people find you?
The Fearless and Healthy Community on FaceBook
Free Stuff – free meditation guide and 7 Day Optimal Health Challenge
Question Fourteen – 29:22
Any closing thoughts you can leave with us?
Energy is Everything and Life doesn’t last forever so go after the things that matter to you.
