Welcome to Episode 041 where we discuss what happens when you officially burn yourself out, how to live your life in a new way.
Here’s what is on this week’s Podcast…
So, what happens when you burn yourself, whether you know what happened or not, now do you live your life from now on?
Both Treva and Bryan have medically blown ourselves out and have to continue to live life after we’ve blown our “Energy Engine.” But how? What should you expect? And how can you avoid it if you even can? We both get VERY honest in our own journey by talking about day to day life after you’ve burned yourself out.
Recap of Bryan Paul Buckley’s Story – 3:54
Bryan’s full story can be found on Episode 002
Analogy of a High Performance Car being DRIVEN
The car performs and looks awesome inside and out but…
Once you open up the hood you see the following:
- little to no maintenance
- putting in cheap gas
- wanting repairs quick and inexpensive
But I blew the Energy Engine by hitting a wall going 70 on a turn marked 30 and now everything is different now
1st major complications at age 40 but ignored them and blew my energy engine at age 45
Recap of Treva’s Story – 7:41
Treva’s full story can be found on Episode 004
Lived a life of marathons and triathlons
But was on one day than off one day that moved into one on day then off two days of feeling exhausted.
“Everything comes back to Energy”
HPA Axis Dysfunction –
- H – hypothalamus – control center in your brain that gives signals to your other glands
- P – Pituatary Gland – controls your growth hormones / anti-diharetic and affect your adrenal glands
- A – Adrenals – steroid / sex hormones and cortisol
When we exhaust our adrenal glands we’re not going to have the energy we need
Then we have these “mini crashes”…
Comparison – athlete with a major injury
Life looks different and we just have to be careful from now
S0metimes this happens with one major event other times it’s an accumulation
Yet we still fall back into the Exhaustion Cycle…
You can hear the Energy Edge Podcast in detail on Episode 006
Busy – Can’t Stop Now and I feel hurried
Beatdown – Can’t Take This and I feel stressed
Burnout – Can’t Keep Going
It all comes back to The Energy Cycle…
You can hear the Energy Edge Podcast in detail on Episode 005
Rest – Stop For Now
- Sleep – Start with Quality / Finish with Quantity
- Breaks – Move the Body / Rest the Mind
- Downtime – Time to Be / Not to Be On
Refuel – Put Back in
- Nutrition – Make the Healthiest Choice
- Activity – Increase M4X
- Personal Development – Plan to Grow
The illusion is just a little bit of rest gives us false hope we’re back to normal and jump back into things
The problem is instead of immediately getting out of the “busy stage” of the exhaustion cycle, we too easily slide into Beatdown and feel the stress which is NOT GOOD for us.
The Key: go back in GENTLY after a mini crash
I slide quicker into the Exhaustion Cycle after blowing an Energy Engine
This is WHY we do what we do with this podcast!
My breaks must be extended when I begin a mini crash – from longer to taking naps
Another Key Point: letting the family know if you’re heading into some sort of crash. Find your lingo for those that support you.
Treva has to be aware of her activity level during a mini crash
She also has to be aware of her craving for carbohydrates that could lead to a nutrition bomb
What Nows…Crash Test Dummy Lessons
- They always come and last longer than you think
- I always bounce back too quickly and think I’m back sooner than I should
- I need to “plan recovery time” for “WHEN” not “IF” an eminent crash will occur.
Treva – the better you know yourself, you’ll be far better off – know your body
BpB – truly listen to your body, be aware of the symptoms so I can honor my schedule and season of life
