Welcome to Episode 051 where we discuss how to handle the holiday season to avoid the every year regrets!
Here’s what is on this week’s Podcast…
Topic Intro – 2:55
Six Ways to Avoid Those Holiday Regrets at the End of the Year – 7:45
1. Be Realistic – 7:58
There is no way you are going to be perfect over the holidays. It’s just the way it goes so if you don’t give yourself some cheat time, or falling off the wagon a little bit, you are setting yourself up for failure.
Sleep Example- if you go to bed a little later than usual a few times over the season, don’t become that perfectionist that you don’t like. If you need an extra nap— TAKE ONE. You can do a few things to assure sleep like we have talked about so much. Integrate those things in and know that you WILL catch up.
Food Example- food. Be realistic with that Christmas dinner. Enjoy yourself a little bit. if you go into it thinking you are going to be perfect, you will be wrestling with the demon and angel on your left and right shoulder. do it…it it all! Who cares. You can start later. Or the other one claiming to be an angel- don’t you eat ONE of those things. You will regret every bite.
2. It Will All Get Done – 11:21
Stress is a HUGE cause of getting sick. Do you know that stress matters more than the change in weather in getting sick? We think that just because all the germs are closed in for the winter. THAT is why we are getting sick. Actually, it is for lots of reasons. We get way less sun for vitamin D, stop exercising, AND the stress of the end of the year with holiday shopping, eating, drinking, spending, and the great abundance of sugar we all eat contributes as well. If we can control our stress, it can help A LOT in the getting sick department.
So…. keep in mind– it will all get done, you can decrease your stress by simply telling yourself- it will ALL get done. it always does, right? and what doesn’t get done, just doesn’t!!!
Somehow we get ourselves into a frenzy– saying- OMG I have sooo much to do. if you just stop saying that, write down what you need to do, get to what is important- It all get’s done.
I repeat this line often – It will all get done decreases my stress
3. Eat For One Not Two – 15:00
Staying on track takes a tad bit of mental planning before your week.
This season is usually very planned, right? Holiday parties, gatherings, food brought to your house or at work, Christmas Day, etc.
Look at your week ahead of time and allow yourself to have a few things that you REALLY like. Sometimes when we tell ourselves we are NOT going to eat those cookies or having that extra glass of wine, what do we do? we end up going overboard!
But if you subscribe to this way of thinking- it’s like a reward or prize.
Pick a few things mentally that you WILL allow yourself to have.

Take a break especially with the craziness of the holidays.
Downtime = Time to be Not to be On
Breaks – Think Minutes
Downtime – Think Hours
5. Remind Yourself How Good You Looked When… – 24:08
Thanksgiving will come around again, so will Christmas, new years, 4th of July, and so on… We have this unconscious mindset that we need to shovel it all in and get everything in to make it the PERFECT holiday season.
We FEEL better when we don’t. So when you want to do too much, fudge on sleep, or eat too much, remember when you felt and looked your best. Don’t dig yourself into a hole that the New Year will fix.
Key: Take yourself to the place that you knew you were when you were balanced.
