Welcome to Episode 055 where we discuss how to maximize your day through the use of energy quarters…
Here’s what is on this week’s Podcast…
Topic Intro – 4:26
What if we looked at our day the same way with four quarters?
You have your morning before work
You have your 1st morning of work
You have your afternoon of work
And you have your evening after work
Yet most of us within our day drag with energy and miss opportunities to really move the ball down the field or the court.
In this case it’s accomplishing your WHYs and specifically your BIG WHY.
Our entire day just kind of blends together with no halftime adjustments or post game to process what happened.
This is NOT a behavior of a high performing professional with an Energy Edge.
So, we’re going to EQ our day.
Do you remember what an EQ is?
It’s defined as: helps your audio sound better and corrects problems when recording
An EQ improves your sound quality.
So let’s EQ our day whether we’re in an office, working from home, or on the road:
EQ1 – Morning Before Work
EQ2 – 1st half of your work day
EQ3 – 2nd half of your work day
EQ4 – Evening After Work
1. EQ1 – Morning Before Work – 8:21
This is YOUR time. Your officially not on the clock and depending what your day of appointments look like, it fluctuates.
Yet this is one if not the biggest areas I see business professionals completely go dark and going back to the sports analogy, fall behind on the game and never catch up.
This is YOU time.
Personal Examples – 9:48
2. EQ2 – Work Morning or the 1st half of your workday – 12:43
Unfortunately many blur this with EQ1 and there’s no real difference.
Then they wonder why they tank their energy mid morning.
This is where the Plan for Your Day takes full effect.
We discussed this in the Solution of the Energy Cycle Phase 3 – Re-Engage under Plan, appropriately titled.
You need to plan your energy and where your energy will come from to maximize your day. Today.
And specifically EQ2.
How you get out of the gate with the workday no matter your location is huge.
But also how you handle any challenges or adversity that comes your way is just as important.
You have to govern your energy in EQ2 and make adjustments as necessary.
This, often times is done at a break. In sports, teams take a time out.
They do this because either something is off, the team is dragging, and tired, to stop another teams run or momentum.
A break is a quick reset which we’ve talked about in other episodes and a team that uses its timeouts wisely is better off in the long run.
You don’t lose time but gain perspective and a quick recharge.
Personal Examples – 16:22
Halftime Adjustments – 19:02
Time to make your adjustments.
This is your lunch and NOT a working lunch.
It’s a lunch BREAK.
And remember, I define as a break as what? Move the Body, Rest the Mind.
So you’re changing your position, your location, and shutting off your mind for this 30-60 minutes.
This is a challenge for many of us because we may not have control of who we have lunch with on any given day, where we go, how long it lasts, or if it’s a working lunch.
One thing remains the same over lunch is eating. This is YOUR time to refuel your body to give you energy for the rest of your day.
Fuel the Ferrari!
Energy Giving Foods – 21:21
Bodies need food as energy 1st thing in the morning
Protein-based to start and a healthy carb
Afternoons are body begins to crave carbs and often where we go wrong
Start off heavy protein in morning and early afternoon

3. EQ3 – Work Afternoon or the 2nd half of your workday – 26:51
Ah the afternoon.
And depending on how we did with EQ1 and EQ2 or any halftime adjustments, usually determines how our afternoon goes.
I’ve found most business professionals especially Road Warriors resort to two things:
You may be thinking, “If my company or my clients really knew…”
But you do.
And you don’t want to be like everyone else.
High Performers kill in this quarter of the work day because everyone else is tired, fighting what they eat for lunch, and just ready to clock out.
Personal Examples – 28:13
4. EQ4 – Evening After Work – 33:52
Depending on your occupation and your family situation, this is the easiest one to go sideways and affect when you go to bed and how you feel the next day.
EQ4 is your time to find a time to:
shut the computer down
Turn the phone on airplane mode
Check in with the family
Do downtime which is Time to Be NOT to be on
This is YOUR time that only you can do to…
Personal Examples: 34:52
The evening becomes more of a Crash Quarter than an Energy Quarter
Full RPMs to Fumes
EQ4 is still an energy quarter but setting ourselves up for the next day:
Unwind your mind
Prepare for sleep
Get ready for the next day
What Now’s – 39:46
1) Choose between EQ1 and EQ4 to prioritize and be proactive
2) Find your Halftime Adjustment and maximize it
